CHENNAI: The state government has extended the term of Justice A Arumughaswamy Commission, which was set to expire on August 3, till August 24. The move came after the commission - which was set up to probe the cause for the death of former chief minister
J Jayalalithaa - made a request stating that it needed time to submit its final report as it was awaiting another report from the Supreme Court-appointed AIIMS medical board.
"The commission learnt that the faculty on the medical board are on a vacation, and they will return to duty on July 15. The commission had also informed that its term would expire on August 3," the secretary to the commission said in a letter addressed to the state. The medical board is expected to submit its report in the first week of August. Considering the request, the state has granted the extension and has made it clear that the tenure will not be extended beyond August 24. TNN
