Woman on dharna in front of rape accused youth’s home

Berhampur: A 29-year-old woman has been staging a dharna along with her son, aged 18 months, in front of a youth’s house here from Tuesday demanding him to accept her as his wife.
She claimed that the youth, K Dinesh, had established physical relations with her for a year with the promise of marriage. She said she filed a rape case against him with Bada Bazar police station in 2020 after he did not agree to court marriage when she became pregnant. Dinesh was arrested but is out on bail. The case is still pending in court.
“I came to know that his parents were trying to marry him to another girl in the next 10 days. That’s why I sat on dharna so that he accepts me as his wife and my child as his son,” she added. Neither the accused person nor his family members were available for comment.
“We are trying to convince her to wait for the final verdict from the court,” said Prasant Bhupati, inspector in-charge, Bada Bazar police station. He said as per the direction of the court, the DNA test of the child was also conducted.
