Netflix has signed a multi-year, multi-projects deal with filmmaking duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, popularly known as Raj & DK, for all their new projects, including films and web-series, under their D2R Films banner.
Known for critically acclaimed series, ‘The Family Man’, on rival platform Amazon Prime Video, Raj & DK are already the show-runners and directors of Netflix’s upcoming comedy crime thriller series, ‘Guns & Gulaabs’, a story of love and innocence in a world of crime, a nostalgic tale of all kinds of firsts, from first love to first kill.
The duo has also produced last year’s hit Telugu film, ‘Cinema Bandi’, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
“Raj & DK are one of the most original creative voices in the country. Along with their unique and ingenious storytelling style, they are also a powerhouse studio. We are excited to continue our relationship with them for a multi-year creative partnership that will bring superlative entertainment to Netflix members around the world,” said Monika Shergill, VP-Content, Netflix India.
With the deal in place, all new projects, developed and created by the duo will be available on Netflix, but it will not include projects which are already announced with other streamers, including Shahid Kapoor-starrer ‘Farzi’, which will be streaming in Prime Video, and consecutive seasons of existing series.
“Netflix is a pioneer in the streaming space backed by its unstinting, passionate support for filmmaking and filmmakers. We are looking forward to creating big, unique stories and challenging ourselves to push the storytelling into exciting and fresh spaces,” Raj & DK said in a statement.
Last year, Netflix had entered into a similar partnership with Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Entertainment, the banner behind films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Rock On’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, and the ‘Don’ franchise.
