Belagavi: KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), a deemed to be university, celebrated its 12th annual convocation here on Wednesday. Chief guest C Ashwath Narayan, minister of higher education, conferred gold medals and certificates to students of different branches, in the presence of KLES chairman Prabhakar Kore.
A total 1,502 degrees in various disciplines of health sciences, were awarded during the convocation. A total 37 gold medals were awarded to 30 students, for their excellence in academics. Apart from this, 14 PhDs, 10 post-doctoral, 494 postgraduate and 909 undergraduate degrees, 11 postgraduate diplomas, 34 certificate courses, 8 fellowships and 22 undergraduate diplomas, were awarded during the convocation.
In his convocational address, Ashwath Narayan said that knowledge, skill and value-based education is the key to success in the 21st century. “Thus, education has undergone a paradigm shift, to cater to the needs of students with diverse talent, aspirations and professional requirements. Therefore, in today’s era, higher education, particularly in health science education and health science, is going through rapid metamorphosis,” he said.
Ashwath Narayan expressed happiness that Karnataka was the first state in the country, to develop an implementation framework to realise the vision and goals of National Education Policy-2020, and for implementing it from the academic year 2021-22. He said that NEP-2020 envisions complete overhaul and re-energising of the higher education system. The minister said NEP-2020 is going to bring a sea change in the horizon of education in the country.
