The train that leaves Egmore now has only two stoppages at Trichy and Dindigul
CHENNAI: After repeated demands from passengers, railways is now open to the idea of allotting a stoppage for Tejas Express between Chennai and Madurai at Tambaram.
Southern Railway has written to the railway board asking permission to allot the stoppage.
The zone informed Madurai MP S Venkatesan that they had approached the board to allot the stoppage for the train.
The MP had written to the zone requesting for a stoppage for the train.
Regular passengers, residents’ associations of Tambaram corporation have been demanding stoppage of the train for one minute as several people travel from Tambaram to Trichy and Madurai commute by the train.
Residents from areas in Tambaram have to travel to Egmore railway station to board the train.
The premium train that leaves Egmore at 6am has only two stoppages – Trichy and Dindigul – and covers the distance in six hours. The railway authorities were hesitant to add more stops fearing that it may slow down the train.
