24-year-old Punjab weightlifter Lovepreet Singh wins the bronze medal in the men's 109 kg event in Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Singh lifted a total of 355 kg including a new National record of 192 kg in clean and jerk. Junior Nyabeyeu of Cameroon won the gold with total lift of 361 kg while Jack Opeloge of Samoa won the silver with a total lift of 358 kg.

Both Lovely and Nayanmoni were also part of the women's four team that clinched a historic gold medal by defeating South Africa on Tuesday. The women's pair team will next take on South Africa in their round three event later in the day. In the men's singles event, Mridul Borgohain humbled Chris Locke of Falkan Islands 21-5 in a one-sided affair. Borgohain dominated his second round match against Locke right from the onset and did not give the latter a chance to stage a comeback. Deepak Deswal progressed to the quarterfinals of men's 100kg competition after beating Cameroon's Eric Jean Sebastien Omgba Fouda at the Commonwealth Games. He took down his opponent from Cameroon with an 'Ippon' in a round of 16 contest that lasted 3 minutes and 37 minutes. Deswal will face England's Harry Lovell-Hewitt next
