AHMEDABAD: A resident of Maninagar was accused of using forged documents of his ex-wife at the sub-registrar’s office in Vejalpur to usurp her 50% share in their joint property in 2018, alleges an FIR filed at Karanj police station on Tuesday.
Mahendra Patel, the in-charge sub registrar of Vejalpur, said that
Ashish Desai had on September 9, 2018, produced a woman before the sub-registrar office purporting to be his wife, produced her Aadhaar card and had her voluntarily relinquish her 50% share in a house at Surdhara Society in Prahladnagar.
The issue came to light when Desai’s ex-wife, Sejal Desai, through her lawyer submitted before the Gujarat high court that Ashish had forged the documents and deprived her of her property rights.
Sejal said in her affidavit that she got her Aadhaar card made in Valsad and does not have a second Aadhaar card, which is not even permissible.
Sejal stated that the woman who posed as her was videographed at the sub-registrar’ office and at a mere glance of the footage and the picture on her Aadhaar card proved that she was someone else.
Having uncovered the irregularities by Ashish, the court had on June 24 ordered an inquiry against him.
After this, Karanj police registered an FIR against Ashish for cheating, forgery and using forged documents.
Sejal and Ashish separated in 2016 during which a local court in Valsad had ordered Ashish to pay permanent alimony of Rs 20 lakh to her and Rs 15 lakh each to their two children, whose custody was given to Sejal.
