HUBBALLI: Police on Monday arrested a 60-year-old man from Pune for robbing several women in Hubballi after sedating them.
Jagadish Hanchanal, the inspector of Keshwapur police station, said the accused was targeting single women at bus terminals or in isolated places and also aged women.
After watching his target for 2-3 days by following them, he used to befriend them by trying to solve their problems. He would claim to be a real estate agent, land owner or a job seeker. Although he is 60, he looks smart, and speaks Kannada, Hindi and other languages, the police officer said.
He would take women looking for land at an affordable price to show them his land posing as the owner. While traveling with them, he would mix sleeping pills in cold drinks or water and eatables. Once the women fell unconscious, he took away their valuables and fled, the police inspector said
“A woman from Gopankoppa filed a complaint, narrating how she was robbed. Based on her information, we tracked him down and arrested him,” he said. “We came to know that he had cheated several women in Belagavi, Pune and Hubballi and told Pune police. We recovered 50 grams of gold and three mobile phones from him,” he said.
