Jaipur: Rashtriya Loktantrik Party’s national convener and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal on Tuesday raised the issue of falling Great Indian Bustard (GIB) and camel population in the state while participating in the discussion of the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2021 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
A delegation visited me on December 18, 2021, referred news from Times of India (Mumbai Edt) says that captive elephants from different places in Maharashtra sent to Reliance (Radha Krishna) Elephant Welfare Trust at Jamnagar. The same news report also mentioned setting up a zoo on 280 acres of land at Reliance (Refinery) at Jamnagar,” said Beniwal, while discussing Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2021 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The MP quoted the ICUN report in the discussion of the Bill and said, “239 species found in India are about to be extinct in some years including the Great Indian Bustard, the state bird of Rajasthan.”
Quoting the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s (DRI) 2019-20 report, Beniwal said that the illegal trade of endangered species has increased in the country, including Rajasthan. He demanded ED and CBI inquiry into the death of sant Vijay Das for saving the holy sites in Bharatpur from illegal mining. “Das had to self-immolate while demanding a ban on illegal mining. The issue should be thoroughly probed by the central law enforcement agencies to unearth the truth,” said Beniwal. He said, “The ministers and MLAs who have earned money from illegal mining should also be probed. The ongoing movement of saints to protect nature was ignored by the responsible people of the Rajasthan government and eventually, a saint had to self-immolate, so a CBI inquiry is also necessary in the case.”
Demanding the status of cow as the ‘Rastra Mata’ (Nation’s mother), the MP said that when provisions can be made for the tiger reserve, then why not for cows’ sanctuary? “The protection of cows and development of protected gaucher land should be made by the Parliament in order to serve cows,” said the MP.
