Ranchi: Over 1,000 members of self-help groups (SHG) under the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) are leading the way for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ programme of the Centre’s Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to be held from August 13 to 15.
A five-member committee led by chief secretary Sukhdev Singh has made the elaborate arrangements with the SHG members for over 80 lakh flags. While 10 lakhs would be made by the SHGs, the remaining will be sourced from both local manufacturers and outside the state.
Talking to TOI, public relations officer of JSLPS Hem Kumar said, “We have been asked to make 10 lakh Tricolours. Over 1,000 women of our SHGs have come forward to take up the challenge. The Tricolours are being made at 10 textiles-cum-production centres run by JSLPS.”
The SHG members have been provided training as the flags should be stitched according to the Flag Code 2002. “We have trained our ‘Sakhi didis’ on the manufacturing of flags as it has to bee done in the 3:2 ratio.”
One of them, Savita Devi, said, “We were taught how to keep the ratio of 3:2 at the time of sewing. We are also ensuring that the coloured threads are not connected to each other.”
Kiran Devi, another ‘Sakhi didi’, said, “The flags will be hoisted in every house to celebrate India’s 75 years of Independence. The flags will be made by us and there’s no greater and better honour than this. Even during the time of the pandemic, we contributed to the service of the country by making masks, but we are feeling a different joy while preparing the Tricolour.”
A senior bureaucrat, who is on the five-member committee, said, “We have decided to ensure availability of 80 lakh flags of which 10 lakh will be manufactured by JSLPS. Another 10 lakh will be provided by private corporates and industries under their CSR initiatives. Moreover, 40 lakh flags will be sourced from the Centre. he remaining 20 lakh flags will be sourced from local manufacturers.”
