Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner K V Rajendra said that the district administration has given suitable compensation to people who suffered losses due to heavy rain recently. The DC told chief minister Basavaraj Bommai at a video conference convened to discuss about rain damage on Tuesday, that Kadaba and Sullia taluks have received excessive rain. While 30 houses were damaged, five were destroyed completely.
The district administration has already distributed ex gratia to the family who lost two children in the landslide reported near Kukke Subrahmanya temple on Monday. There are reports of three domestic animals being washed away in the floods. Residents who suffered due to rain damage, were compensated, and those who lost houses were shifted to relief centres, Rajendra said.
Commercial complexes at some places were damaged, and overflow of the Darpana Thirtha Rriver at Kukke Subrahmanya, led to flooding inside the shrine at Adi Subrahmanya. Balugodu, Kollamogra, Kalmakaru and other villages near Subrahmanya have lost connectivity due to roads being damaged. Measures will be taken to restore roads at 23 places in Kadaba and Sullia taluks, he said.
The district administration gave Rs 10 lakh, to the kin of two children who died in the landslide. Meanwhile, Rs 95,000 each was given to those whose houses were damaged, and Rs 10,000 for the loss of utensils and clothes, the DC said, adding that a total of Rs 11.1 lakh has been distributed as compensation. The CM directed the DC to expedite relief work, and distribution of compensation. State chief secretary Vandita Sharma, finance department additional chief secretary I S N Prasad and other officials were present.
