The first phase of the ambitious third Kalwa road bridge over the Thane creek will be made operational by August-end, ending traffic snarls at Kalwa naka — a prominent junction on the Mumbai-Thane-Navi Mumbai-Pune route, additional municipal commissioner Sandeep Malvi said Tuesday.“The final touches to the unidirectional 2. 4 km-long bridge from the Thane police commissioner to Kalwa naka, and an extended arm ending near Kalwa municipal hospital will be completed by August 25,” said Malvi.

Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against Shiv Sena's new Thane district chief Kedar Dighe and his friend Rohit Kapoor for alleged criminal intimidation and rape.The N M Joshi Marg police in Mumbai registered a case under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (criminal intimidation) against Dighe. A case was also filed under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code against Kapoor, who police said is a friend of Dighe. (ANI)

A forensic expert, the 261st witness to depose in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, told the special National Investigation Agency court on Tuesday that traces of ammonium nitrate were found on several articles, including the LML Freedom bike allegedly recovered from the blast site. "Ammonium Nitrate is used as an explosive," the witness told court.

Samples of 15 people across Maharashtra have tested negative for monkeypox, the latest viral infection sweeping across the globe.“Samples of the 15 suspected patients were tested at the National Institute of Virology, Pune, or Kasturba Hospital, Mumbai, and they were negative for the monkeypox virus,” said state surveillance officer Dr Pradip Awate. The state has refused to divulge the location of patients due to fear of stigmatisation.

A dozen residents of a plush housing complex in Borivli were targeted in a sextortion case by an individual who contacted them on Facebook posing as a woman. The person sent obscene images to them and threatened to circulate screenshots of the conversations. A police investigation revealed the accused was a man living in the same building and looking to earn a quick buck as he was unemployed.

The price of CNG in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will rise by Rs 6 per kg from Wednesday, pushing it to an all-time high of Rs 86 per kg.
