The four arrested accused on Tuesday
GUWAHATI: The Bureau of Investigation Economic Offences (BIEO) on Tuesday arrested four employees of a fake real estate company for allegedly duping several people of Rs 1.4 crore by falsely promising them of offering good profits through attractive schemes. Two other accused are on the run.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bikash Borgohain of Mothiasiga Gohain village, Rinkumoni Borah of Bhitoruwal village, Rajani Gogoi of Chutiakatori village, and Dibakar Bora of Baksu Kotoky Koch village in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district. Jyoti Gogoi and Chandan Bora are absconding.
Addressing the media here in Guwahati, BIEO superintendent of police R Handique said, “The former additional SP of the agency, Purabi Mazumdar, had on November 11, 2020, lodged an FIR against six directors/ partners of one ‘Response Real Estate & Construction (P) Limited’ alleging that they had criminally conspired and indulged in cheating and misappropriation of huge public money by luring gullible people under false promises of good profit in various fraudulent schemes by setting up branch offices in different districts of the state.”
Accordingly, a case was filed under Sections 120B, 420 and 406 of IPC along with relevant various sections of Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978, and Assam Protection of Interests of Depositors Act, 2013.
