Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Tuesday heard the habeas corpus petition filed for the production of senior advocate Rajeev Kumar, who was arrested at Howrah in West Bengal. Kumar’s father Satyadev Roy had filed the petition.
The high court, however, ruled against the petition and adjourned the matter for hearing again on August 10.
A division bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad observed that the petition of habeas corpus does not have merit when the West Bengal police confirmed that Kumar has been arrested in a case of extortion by the Hare Street police on July 31 in Kolkata.
The division bench adjourned the matter to be heard again on August 10 and ordered the FIR registered against Kumar be presented before the court.
