GURUGRAM: Commuting on several key roads in the city may soon become easier as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is planningo undertake special repairs on them after the monsoon.
According to officials, a total of 9.38 kilometres of roads will be repaired as part of the Rs 15.52 crore project, which was approved during a meeting of the Core Planning Cell (CPC) of the GMDA last week.
"The team has identified the stretches which require urgent repair as their condition has deteriorated over time. Since these roads were transferred to GMDA from the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), they have been maintained only through patchwork," said Amit Godara, Executive Engineer, Infrastructure 1 division of the GMDA.
The roads in question include a total of 9 stretches across the city, of which six have an average daily traffic count of over 30,000 vehicles.
The most important among the stretches are the 1.5 kilometre long dividing road between Sector 26 and MG Road, which sees an average daily traffic of 47,650 vehicles, the Sector 56 master road adjacent to Golf Course Road, which is 1.2 kilometers long, sees 46,350 vehicles daily, and the 1.5 kilometer long Sunset Boulevard, which sees an average daily traffic of 46,320 vehicles.
The 2-kilometre-long Hamilton Court road, with an average daily traffic of 37,070 vehicles, and a 500-metre portion of the dividing road of sectors 29 and 41, is located adjacent to National Highway 8 (NH8), are also up for special repairs.
The other stretches that will be repaired will be the dividing road of sectors 24 and 26, the dividing road of sectors 30 and 41, Countryside Avenue, and a portion of the Jharsa road which divides sectors 39 and 40.
According to the records of the GMDA, while Hamilton Court road, Countryside Avenue, the Sector 56 master road, and the dividing road of sectors 30 and 41 last underwent repairs in 2012, Sunset Boulevard and the dividing road of sector 26 and MG road were similarly repaired in 2016. The portion of Jharsa road included in this project, meanwhile, was repaired in 2017.
Officials said that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GMDA, Sudhir Rajpal, will also be undertaking an inspection of the proposed sites with the engineering team before the work commences.
