Tamil Nadu reports 1,467 new Covid cases

CHENNAI: The number of active Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu dropped below the 13,000-mark on Sunday, with 1,890 more patients recovering from the disease in the last 24 hours.
The state reported 1,467 new cases with a Test Positivity Rate of 4.9%. Chennai, which had the maximum number of fresh cases (316), also had a similar TPR. Two other disease hotspots Coimbatore and Chengalpet had 148 and 144 new infections respectively. All other districts reported cases in single or double digits.
Health minister Ma Subramanian said that the 33rd mega vaccination camp will be held at 50,000 centres across the state on August 7, and it will focus more on administering precautionary booster shots.
According to official data, more than 3.87 crore people in TN are due for the booster doses as only 37.33 have got it till date. "There is no need to wait till August 7 as people can step into any of the nearby government health centres to get their vaccines," he said. tnn
