Vadodara: M S University’s biggest faculty in terms of student strength – the Faculty of Commerce – is once again making an attempt to curb the menace of absenteeism.
Faculty dean professor Ketan Upadhyaya has issued a circular stating that 80% attendance will be compulsory for students as classes second and third year BCom will begin in offline mode in first and second week of August.
The classes for third year BCom (fifth semester) will begin at the main building, girls’ college and general education building in offline mode from August 4. Similarly, classes of second year BCom (third semester) will begin from August 8.
“According to UGC guidelines, 80 % attendance is compulsory. Those who do not attend the classes and fail to register 80% attendance will not be allowed to appear in their exams,” Upadhyaya has warned. “We are requesting students and parents that they should pay attention towards these guidelines and ensure attendance in classes so that their careers do not get hampered. We have also made necessary arrangements to register attendance of students,” he said.
The commerce faculty is infamous for large-scale absenteeism not only of students but also of teachers. The two years of Covid-19 during which teaching shifted from offline to online mode added to the menace.
Even before Covid-19, attempts by earlier deans to implement the compulsory attendance rule had failed.
