CHENNAI: The warring groups of the AIADMK on Monday vied with each other to assert their supremacy at an all-party meeting convened by the chief electoral officer on Aadhaar linkage. The EPS group even grabbed the nameplate holder displaying the AIADMK name in front of an OPS loyalist and placed it before them.
OPS loyalist and former MLA Kovai K Selvaraj was an early bird and took the first seat allotted to the AIADMK. EPS supporters, former minister D Jayakumar and former deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman, stepped in a little late and took the second and third seats, even as the CEO had invited only two representatives from each of the recognised political parties. Just before the event began, Jayakumar rose up from his seat and grabbed the nameplate holder on the desk displaying the AIADMK name in front of Selvaraj and placed it before him in full media glare. All this while, Selvaraj maintained silence.

The CEO had sent the invite to the AIADMK headquarters, which is now in the control of the Edappadi K Palaniswami group following court order. Even as EPS deputed Jayakumar and Jayaraman, Panneerselvam in his capacity as AIADMK coordinator also deputed his loyalist Selvaraj to the meeting held at the secretariat.

Later, talking to reporters, Jayakumar said, “We are the AIADMK. On behalf of interim general secretary EPS, we took part in the meeting. Don’t ask about anyone else. Why are you asking about his party, ask the Election Commission?”
Selvaraj said the former minister’s act was shameful.
Interestingly, both camps supported the integration of Aadhaar with the elector’s photo identity card and gave suggestions to the CEO.
