Vadodara: Maharaja Sayajirao University may get trademark for its logo to prevent misuse

VADODARA: MS University may get its logo registered under the trademark act to prevent misuse of its logo and name. Also, the university may take an undertaking from students at the time of admission that they will not use the logo, name of the university or its faculties and institutions.
A report of the committee appointed by the university to look into the misuse of the logo and its name by mischievous elements along with its recommendations was unanimously passed by the university’s syndicate members on Saturday.
The report states that some groups of students were misusing the logo, name of the faculty, institutions and university at large. The committee has recommended that the university may apply for registration of the logo under the trademark act if not applied.
“We have also recommended that students of undergraduate, postgraduate and other programs may be permitted to use the university logo while submitting their research work like dissertations, project work etc. In this regard, the university may prescribe performa containing university logo such that it is used for academic and research purpose only,” said syndicate member Hasmukh Vaghela.
“We have also recommended that all stakeholders may not be allowed to use logo of the university after completion of his or her tenure or service period designated by university or faculty or institution,” said Vaghela.
The report states that any group of students cannot use the name of the faculty, institution, or university for any student union or other activities. “In case anyone is found using the logo and name of the university for their student union, university authority may take appropriate disciplinary action against such person or persons,” he said.
Apart from Vaghela, syndicate members Dr Dinesh Yadav, Dr V K Kher, Hemal Mehta, Dr Rajendra Parikh from the Faculty of Law and government nominated senate member Ishan Purohit were part of the committee.
