Mumbai live news, August 3: Chhabria of Radius Developers and Bhonsale of ABIL Infrastructure and Metropolois Hotels were earlier arrested for their alleged role in the case, known to be India’s biggest bank fraud.Mumbai News Today Live (August 3): The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday attached assets worth Rs 415 crore from builders Sanjay Chhabria and Avinash Bhosale, who are accused in the Yes Bank-Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL) case. “ED has provisionally attached assets worth Rs. 251 Crore of Sanjay Chhabria and assets worth Rs 164 Crore of Avinash Bhosale, (total asset worth of Rs. 415 crore) in Yes Bank-DHFL Fraud case under PMLA, 2002,” the Enforcement Directorate tweeted on Wednesday. “Total attachment in the case stands at Rs. 1827 Crore.”
Mumbai Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against Shiv Sena’s Thane district unit head Kedar Dighe for threatening a 23-year-old woman who was allegedly raped by his friend at a five-star hotel in Lower Parel. The case was registered at N M Joshi Marg Police Station against Dighe and his friend Rohit Kapoor. “We received a complaint and have registered a case against Dighe. We are yet to arrest the accused,” a senior IPS officer said. Dighe said that he was not aware of such a case against him.
In other news, Mumbai on Tuesday recorded 329 new coronavirus cases, up from 164 a day ago, but no fresh death linked to the infection was registered in the metropolis, the local civic body said. With this, the overall tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 11,25,306, while the death toll remained unchanged at 19,651, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a bulletin.

The city recorded an average rainfall of 17.22mm until 8am on Wednesday. Though a few parts of the city were water logged, the railway traffic remains unaffected.
A video has surfaced on social media purportedly showing a senior police officer in Thane being pushed by protesters during a march against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari's "Gujaratis-Rajasthanis" comments.
The incident took place on Monday when Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders and workers were marching towards the Raj Bhavan in south Mumbai to protest against the Governor's comments.
The NCP march was stopped midway by a police team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinay Rathod. In the viral video, the IPS officer is seen being pushed by some protesters when the police tried to prevent the crowd from moving ahead.
When contacted, an official at the Kopri police station said no offence has been registered so far in connection with the incident.
Koshyari had triggered a huge controversy with his comments that "Mumbai will have no money if the Gujaratis and Rajasthanis were to leave” the city.

Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday called the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government a "government of traitors", and said it will soon collapse.
He was speaking at a rally at Patan in Satara district as a part of his outreach program after Shinde toppled his father Uddhav Thackeray's government.
"In Maharashtra, since June 20, betrayal is unfolding. This is a government of traitors, it is an unauthorised, unconstitutional government and it will collapse," Aaditya said.
He mocked Shinde faction's claim that their rebellion against the Sena leadership made headlines in 33 countries. "For making revolution and revolt, one needs courage, but these people do not have that," the former minister said.
Referring to the spine surgery his father underwent while he was chief minister, Aaditya said, "Because of his surgery, people in the country came to know that even politicians have a spine. PTI
The Mumbai civic body has invited bids for the concretization of 400 km of roads in the city which is estimated to cost Rs 5,806 crore. It has floated five separate tenders for upgradation and improvement of roads, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a release.
The civic body, which regularly receives flak for craters on the roads during the monsoon, has undertaken the project as cement concrete roads rarely develop craters, said an official.
The richest civic body in the country claimed it was a "huge step" towards making roads in the city potholes-free in the next two years. (PTI)

This was the second time since July 16 when the financial capital has logged more than 300 COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour span. Also, the city has not reported any fresh coronavirus-linked fatality for the second day in a row. (PTI)
The Mumbai police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly posing as a woman on Facebook and extorting money from a man, an official said on Tuesday.
The police on Monday arrested Sushant Talshilkar, who allegedly befriended the complainant on Facebook by posing as a woman from his housing society and exchanged obscene pictures and messaged with him, an official from Kasturba Marg police station said.
The accused then threatened to circulate the screenshots of their chats to the WhatsApp group of the housing society and demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant, he said. (PTI)
A special court here on Tuesday examined a motorcycle that was allegedly owned by BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and used in the September 2008 Malegaon blast.
The motorcycle and five bicycles which were damaged in the blast were brought to the court compound.

Maharashtra-based farmer outfit Shetkari Sanghatana's president Anil Ghanwat on Tuesday said there is feeling among cultivators that even after 75 years of independence they have not achieved real freedom and hence they will not take part in the "Har Ghar Tiranga" initiative.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign has been launched by the Centre to encourage people to bring the tricolour home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India's independence. The idea behind the initiative, part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, is to invoke the feeling of patriotism among citizens and to promote awareness about the national flag.
Ghanwat, who was a member of the Supreme Court-appointed panel on the now-scrapped farm reform laws, said he is free as a citizen of the country, but certainly not happy as a farmer who is restricted with several rules and regulations in the agricultural sector. (PTI)

Leaders of the two factions of the Shiv Sena on Tuesday sparred over the removal of photographs of Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray from the offices of rebel MLAs who are backing Eknath Shinde.
Shinde supporter and MLA Sanjay Shirsat said they will not keep the photos of "those who call us traitors.” But he asserted that Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray remained a revered figure for him.

Maharashtra on Tuesday recorded 1,886 new coronavirus cases and five pandemic-related deaths, the state health department said. The state's COVID-19 case tally rose to 80,50,171, and death toll reached 1,48,110.
On Monday, the state had recorded 830 new cases and one death. It has been seen that the number of cases drops on Mondays as fewer samples are tested over the weekend.
In 24 hours till Monday evening, 18,775 coronavirus tests were conducted, while 34,083 samples were tested in last 24 hours. State capital Mumbai recorded 329 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. Nashik district recorded 93 cases. (PTI)
A 18-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a reservoir in Vasai-Virar area of Maharashtra's Palghar district, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday morning, when a group of four boys from Kalina area of suburban Santacruz went for a swim in the reservoir in the neighbouring district, an official said.
The victim, Abhishekh Mandal, drowned after he ventured into the deep waters, and his friends failed to rescue him, he said. The death came to light, when the remaining boys returned home without Abhishekh and were taken to a police station, where they informed about the drowning, the official said.
During the probe, the police found that the boys had thrown the victim's mobile phone and bag, he said, adding that the matter is being probed. (PTI)
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Tuesday said his government is doing “good work” and that a cabinet expansion will soon take place. The government has been receiving flak for being run by only two individuals — Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Shinde, who is on a tour to Pune district, Tuesday held a meeting with public representatives and senior government officials to discuss various issues and ongoing projects.
Asked about the cabinet expansion, Shinde listed out the “pro-people” decisions taken by his government. “We have done great work in a short while. We have reduced VAT on petrol, diesel, provided relief to the farmers by resuming the scheme providing an assistance of Rs 50,000, reduced power traffic for lift irrigation and others. The cabinet expansion will happen soon too,” said Shinde. Read more
Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election, a Congress delegation from Mumbai Tuesday met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and demanded scrapping of the delimitation list of the 236 electoral wards in Mumbai. They also demanded him to revert to the list of 227 electoral wards and lottery for ward reservations again.
The delegation was led by former Mumbai Congress Chief Milind Deora and comprised Member of Parliament Amin Patel, MLA and Mumbai Youth Congress President Zeeshan Siddique, former leader of Opposition in BMC Ravi Raja and eight to ten Congress corporators. Read more
Seeking Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s custody, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday claimed that the leader and his family were ‘direct beneficiaries’ of around Rs 1.06 crore linked to redevelopment of a chawl project in a northern suburb of Mumbai.
The special court later sent Raut, who was arrested early on Monday morning, to the ED custody till August 4. The case relates to Patra Chawl where it is claimed that instead of providing houses for displaced residents, directors of HDIL and others cheated them. Read more
All 15 suspected monkeypox samples from Maharashtra have tested negative for the viral disease, a senior health department official said here on Tuesday.
Eight cases of monkeypox have been reported so far in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Madaviya said earlier in the day.
“We had sent samples of 15 suspected patients from Maharashtra for testing and the results of all of them are negative,” Dr Pradip Awate, surveillance officer of the health department, told PTI. The samples were tested at the National Institute of Virology, Pune and Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai, he added. (PTI)

Six years after it was demolished, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) evening opened the newly constructed Hancock bridge for vehicular traffic. However, some work on the bridge still remains to be completed such as painting it, fixing of cat’s eyes and resurfacing a portion of the slip road.
BMC reopened the bridge after the Bombay High Court on Monday passed an order allowing interim access to the bridge.
In January 2016, the approximately 150-year-old Hancock bridge, located between the suburban railway stations of Sandhurst Road and Byculla on the Central line, was demolished during an 18 hour megablock. Read more
