The massive vacuum created by the withdrawals of FIIs has been partially filled by domestic institutional investors. They have purchased equities worth almost Rs.3.68 lakh crore in the past 16 months.
The hot money that foreign investors poured into Indian markets has been flowing out at a rate never seen in recent history. FIIs have sold a record Rs.4.38 lakh crore worth of Indian stocks in the past 16 months (see graphic), averaging net sales of more than Rs.1,300 crore on every trading day since 1 April 2021.
