Real-time data platform operator Hazelcast's new Viridian Serverless service has gone into beta.

Viridian Serverless is said to speed app development, simplify provisioning, and enable the flexible and robust integration of real-time data into applications.

Viridian Serverless includes high-speed data storage and stream processing, and has a self-service provisioning capability that adjusts automatically as the workload increases or decreases.

A free-for-life tier provides up to 2Gibibytes of in-memory data storage at no cost.

Other features include a declarative API, support for streaming SQL, out-of-the-box connectors for multiple cloud data sources, an API for building custom connectors to any other data source, seamless integration with cloud deployments of popular data technologies including Apache Kafka, robust WAN replication capabilities, change data capture technology, and support for high-performance infrastructure to ensure maximum throughput and low latency for realtime systems.

Viridian Serverless is initially available on AWS, with Google Compute Platform to follow.

According to Hazelcast, organisations requiring an enterprise-grade solution for production and predictable workloads will likely choose Viridian Dedicated over Viridian Serverless.

Viridian Dedicated is a fully-managed, single-tenant cluster. It is intended for organisations with clear, predictable usage, ad/or that want precision control over their own clusters.

Viridian products are powered by the Hazelcast Platform, which – according to the company – combines combines distributed stream processing and real-time data management to immediately and automatically act on discovered patterns, trends, and anomalies.

"Real-time applications are hard to build on traditional data platforms, forcing businesses to compromise on their strategic aspirations. Hazelcast Viridian Serverless is the next step in providing a truly real-time cloud, all while making it even easier to develop, configure and deploy innovative applications," said Hazelcast chief product officer Manish Devgan.

"Our new serverless offering is the most seamless way to build and deploy cloud-native, real-time applications that will drive the next generation of competitive advantage."
