MUMBAI: Vakola police on Sunday registered an FIR against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut based on a complaint lodged by a woman who is a witness in the money-laundering case related to the Patra Chawl redevelopment fraud.
Raut has been booked under IPC sections 504, 506 and 509 for "criminal intimidation and words intended to insult the modesty of a woman." Complainant's name has been withheld as it is a case of a crime against a woman.
The woman had claimed that on July 15, she received a letter inserted in a newspaper at home issuing rape and murder threats if she "opened her mouth" before the ED. She had claimed that the threat had a strong connection with the ongoing ED investigation against Raut. Initially, police had lodged a non-cognisable complaint, which was then converted into an FIR.
Lately, an audio clip of a phone conversation between the woman and an individual hurling expletives at her had gone viral. Police said they will analyze the clip to verify if the other person is Raut.
