Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 4 Live Updates: Eyes on weightlifters to add more medals

New Zealand are leading by 6-1 against India in the women’s fours semifinal.

Weightlifter Achinta Sheuli (73kg) lived up to his top billing as he clinched India’s third gold in the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. Favourite to win the event, debutant Sheuli heaved 313kg (143kg+170kg) to grab the gold at NEC Hall here on Sunday. After winning the gold medal in the 67kg men’s weightlifting category on Sunday, Jeremy Lalrinnunga revealed that Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu has been a big source of inspiration for him. “Didi (Chanu) motivates me a lot. I have had the opportunity to learn a lot from her,” he said at a press conference. “She had met me and wished me luck before the event. During my round, she was standing right in front of the audience with the Indian flag. She guides us all the time.” Chanu herself had a successful outing at the CWG this year, winning the gold medal in the 49kg women’s category by a landslide. All eyes will be on Indian weightlifters again, given this sporting event has given India all three Golds, two Silver, and one bronze so far. Weightlifters Ajay Singh and Gurinder Kaur will be in action on Monday in Men’s 81kg and Women’s 71kg categories, respectively.
