MUMBAI: Special court sentenced a man (28) to one month simple imprisonment for stalking a schoolgirl and uttering “unwelcome” words to her.
Extra Joint Special Judge under Pocso Act Anis Khan found the man, a driver, guilty.
“The accused committed sexual harassment to the girl by saying unwelcome words and outraged her modesty. He, thereby, committed offence punishable under IPC section 354D read with Section 12 of Pocso Act,” court said.
As per FIR filed in September, 2016, accused used to follow her to school and make attempts to contact her. He would also ask her to marry him, and threaten to not let anyone else marry her. Defence argued there was delay in lodging FIR and there was previous enmity between man and girl’s parents.
“In view of SC guidelines, considering evidence, discrepancies brought by accused are not sufficient to discard evidence of girl and her mother,” special court ruled.
