Noida: Girl brought to centre after rape complaint flees with her friend

NOIDA: A 17-year-old girl and her friend fled from the one-stop centre in Noida's Sector 62 on Sunday morning before the former was to be taken for an appearance before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in a rape case. However, by Sunday evening, the police had managed to find the girls in Sector 7 of Vasundhara in Ghaziabad.
According to cops, the Phase 1 police station in Noida had registered a complaint against a youth, Mota, for kidnapping a minor girl in the first week of July. Subsequently, police teams rescued the girl from Delhi on July 23, along with her friend, who could not produce any documents of identity or age. Since then, the girls had been staying at the one-stop centre under police protection.
“The kidnapping victim had said that she was raped by two boys after being taken to the Sangam Park area of Delhi. So, the police had added charges of gangrape and sections of the POCSO Act against Mota and his accomplice. We subsequently arrested the accused, and they are currently in judicial custody,” said Ranvijay Singh, the additional DCP of Noida.
Later, the medical examination of the minor was conducted and she was to be produced before the CWC on Monday. However, she along with her friend, fled from the one-stop centre around 4am after breaking the ventilator space in the washroom.
“We circulated the girl’s pictures to the police stations in nearby districts and at approximately 5pm, we got information that she was spotted roaming in the Vasundhara area of Ghaziabad. We then brought her and her friend back to the one-stop centre,” the ADCP said.
After they were brought back to the centre, the girl’s friend told police that she had asked the girl not to tell the cops about the rape.
“We brought the friend into the one-stop centre because she is a witness in the case,” said Singh.
