A 7th person has died following a KwaZulu-Natal tuckshop mass shooting - six men died on the scene

A seventh person has died after a group of men burst into a tuckshop in Marianhill, west of Durban, and began to shoot. Six people died on the scene on Wednesday night.

KwaZulu-Natal police are searching for suspects. 

On Wednesday evening, a group of men opened fire at patrons at Siqhopholozi Tuckshop, situated at the corner of Mpanza and Nxele Street in Savanah Park, said police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker. 

Six men, aged between 30 and 65, died on the scene. The seventh person, who was rushed to hospital died on Sunday morning, Naicker said.

Police reports revealed that three of the deceased were the tuckshop owner, his two sons, and one of the deceased who was waiting at the tuckshop to see a traditional healer.

It is surmised that the traditional healer might have been the target of the hit.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi called for stricter regulations regarding the management of legal firearms as many of them end up being used by criminals.

Mkhwanazi added:

We will do everything within our control to bring these killers to book.
