JAIPUR: Unidentified thieves broke into an empty house and set it on fire before leaving with valuable items in Kalwar Road on Saturday.
According to sub-inspector (Kalwar police station) Rameshwar Singh, the house belongs to one Pratap Singh. “The victim works in the municipal corporation. He had been staying at a relative’s house since July 18,” the official said.
According to Singh, the victim’s neighbours discovered that his house was on fire. They alerted him and he arrived today morning to check on the ruins of the house.
The police said that the accused had broken into the house after unlocking the locks. “Two rooms of the house were set on fire. The accused also stole some items before fleeing,” the official said.
The police said that the fire could also be an act by arsonists. “We are trying to examine if the incident was a result of some kind of animosity.
But the complainant has also alleged that some of the items from his house are missing, so we are treating it as a case of theft too,” Rameshwar Singh said.
The Kalwar police said that they have registered an FIR in the case and that efforts are being made to identify the accused by the use of scientific investigation and arrest them.
