HYDERABAD: At a time when IIIT Basara is much in news over lack of infrastructure, faculty, hostel and mess facilities, a 21-year-old student of the institute from a small village in Kothagudem has shone bright.
Nikhil Thangellapally, who graduated from computer science stream from the institute, bagged a 64 lakh package in Amazon. Nikhil’s placement will be in Madrid, Spain.
Nikhil, who cracked the interview in May, says it’s a dream come true as his family comes from a humble background. “My father works as an LIC agent and my mother is a home-maker. We faced a lot of challenges, especially during Covid-19 when members of my family fell sick. Yet, I focused on getting this job because this is what I wanted,” Nikhil says.
The student, who hails from Muthyalampadu in Tekulapally mandal, had applied to over 40 teams of the company across the world and cracked the first round of interviews and bagged the job.
“It was nearly a one-and-a-half year process which I began by brushing up my skills first and then applying in various companies. After applying in almost 40 teams, I got response from two teams who asked me to write an online assessment in February this year. I qualified in this stage for one of the teams and eventually cracked the interview in May,” said Nikhil, who also used LinkedIn to connect with Amazon employees.
“The whole village, my college, everyone, is happy for my achievement. For my family, this is huge as I will be the first one going abroad,” he said. IIIT Basara felicitated Nikhil.
