Gutka worth Rs 17 lakh seized by Nashik FDA

NASHIK: The Nashik Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has seized gutka worth over Rs 17 lakh in three raids conducted in less than a week in different parts of the district.
After receieving information, the FDA seized gutka and banned tobacco products worth Rs 1.6 lakh from Kalwan on July 27.
The actions were taken under the guidance of joint commissioner (food) Ganesh Parlikar and assistant commissioners (food) Vivek Patil and Uday Lohakare.
On July 25, after receiving a tip-off, the FDA officials raided a shopkeeper’s godown in Nehru Chowk, Sinnar, and recovered gutka worth Rs 1.2 lakh.
Patil said that on July 24, they had recovered gutka and banned tobacco worth Rs 14.5 lakh from a vehicle that was moving suspiciously in the Girnare road area under the Nashik taluka police station.
Parlikar said all the food inspectors have been instructed to continue taking strict action against those selling gutkha to eliminate the menace illegal of smuggling and sale of gutka.
