Allahabad University scholar to do post-doctoral research in cancer at US university

PRAYAGRAJ: Making the university and the city proud, a research scholar of the department of botany , Allahabad University, Saket Jha, has been selected for a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois, Chicago in the US. Jha would pursue research in the field of cancer.
Jha completed his DPhil under the guidance of former head of the department of botany, Prof Anupam Dikshit. He worked on development of a new concept of “nano-biofertilizer” and its bio- remedial study. His work on developing the nano-biofertilizer formulation using several rhizobacteria and nanomaterials.
He also has experience in the extraction of secondary metabolites and their application such as the use of these extracts and oils in the treatment of dermatophytes and human pathogens.
He has a keen interest in plant pathology, microbiology, nanotechnology, ethno-pharmaceuticals, cell culturing, microbial biochemistry, and molecular advanced techniques. The postdoctoral tenure of Jha starts from July 25 wherein he would be getting an annual salary of $39,500.
“After having a rich experience in plant secondary metabolites and their impact on treatment of dermatophytes and human pathogens using mice model-based experiments, I have also worked on studying the impact of nickel heavy metal on fresh water fishes. The post-doc fellowship at Illinois, US would give me an opportunity to sharpen my skills and learn about the advanced study in the field of cancer,” said Jha.
Prof Dikshit said, “It is not only a personal achievement for my student but has also made AU proud. His work would be for the betterment of the society and for the patients suffering from the dreaded ailment.”
