SURAT: Partially decomposed body of a two-year-old leopard was found in the sugarcane farm of Dedvasan village in Mahuva taluka of Surat district.
The exact reason for its death could not be ascertained.
The body was found on Thursday from the farm of Shankar Patel in the middle of a dense plantation of sugarcane. Patel alerted the forest officials on finding the body.
“The body was decomposed and the internal organs deformed. Preliminary finding by the veterinary doctor suggested that it was a natural death,” an official said.
The tooth and claws were found in tact after the body was cremated
Meanwhile, forest officials have warned locals in Dedvasan not to take photos and videos of the body when they call the department to inform them of dead animals. In the past similar incidents have happened in south
Gujarat and forest officials have never issued such instructions. Officials claimed that they told the locals not to crowd at the spot to click photos and videos.
