NEW DELHI: The Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande proceeded on a visit on Friday to the Kingdom of Bhutan. The visit is significant keeping in mind the rise in Chinese activities in the Doklam tri-junction area and also there has been forward movement in Bhutan-China bilateral talks on boundary issues.

Ina statement on visit the Army said, “This visit will further enhance the unique and time-tested bilateral relationship, characterised by utmost trust, goodwill and mutual understanding.” It is a rare public statement on the Indian Army Chief’s visit to Bhutan.

The Army Chief will commence his visit by paying homage at the National Memorial Chorten at Thimpu, built in the memory of the third King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. The COAS is scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth King.
