Synopsis

India cruised to a 5-0 win against Pakistan in the badminton mixed team event while the men's and women's table tennis teams, the Indian women's hockey team and boxer Shiva Thapa made a good start at the Commonwealth Games on Day 1 of the Games. However, the women's cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur crashed to a defeat against Australia on the first day of CWG 2022.

8:00 PM: Weighlifting - Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in women's 49kg category

Day 1 action saw India's mixed badminton team dominating Pakistan 5-0. The women's cricket team had a disappointing start, losing to the arch-rivals by three wickets. Pugilist Shiva Thapa raised the boxing bar by winning the men's 63.5kg Round of 32 bout against Pakistan's Suleman Baloch and the women's hockey sealed a 5-0 win against Ghana in their campaign opener.
