Additional director general of police (law and order) Alok Kumar said 21 people belonging to various organisations were detained and were being interrogated in connection with the case.

“We will proceed with the legal action in case we find evidence against anyone. Those who were detained included members of SDPI and PFI. We have been investigating all suspected persons legally using the powers investigation officers have. We will obtain their statement and leave them if they are not involved in the case. I have been monitoring the investigation personally. Dakshina Kannada SP and Mangaluru City Police are also working on the case,” he said.

Praveen was hacked to death near Akshaya fresh chicken farm, owned by him, on Tuesday night.

Sources said police had gathered CCTV footage near Praveen's shop which shows a person moving around suspiciously.

The footage shows the suspect waiting on the roadside on a bike for about 30 minutes and riding towards the chicken shop just before the murder took place.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, who visited Praveen's house on Thursday, had to face the wrath of family members.
Praveen’s wife Nuthana questioned, “Where were you two days? My husband was working 24 hours for the party. He was running behind leaders Angaranna (minister S Angara) and Nalinanna (BJP state president) all the time,” she said, demanding the arrest of the accused.
