After being at the helm of BBC Radio London for almost 20 years, eminent broadcaster host Vanessa Feltz has announced that she will be leaving her shows on Radio 2 and BBC Radio London.
Despite "loving every moment" of her early-morning show, the broadcaster said she was taking a break to catch up on a decade's worth of sleep deprivation.
As she announced her departure, she called it "an honor and a privilege" to have served in the roles at BBC. Friday will mark the last day of her as the host of the show, Radio 2's Early Breakfast Show.
Sleep deprivation
In statement, Feltz said that she loved every moment spent with the early birds of Radio 2. She further said that she will dearly miss her colleagues, friends, good fellows and her listeners. She continued that even after 12 ecstatic years she now needs to step down and indeed catch up on a decade's worth of sleep deprivation.
Feltz said that it was both a privilege and an honor to be the breakfast voice for BBC Radio London for as long as 20 years. She said that she will continue to expect hugs from her listeners on the streets of London even after she is no longer a host.
She added that she will indulge in energy-boosting shuteye so that she can frolic with her fiancé, Ben, who is annoyingly 10 years younger than her, and swing from zip lines with her three effervescent grandchildren.
One of highest paid in UK
Her salary of more than £400,000 places her in eighth place among the top 10 highest-paid on-air talent, according to BBC figures recently released.
Feltz hosted a mid-morning phone-in show, and from 2001 a mid-afternoon show. She will also host her final BBC Radio London show on August 26.
