PUNE: Two men posed as police and stole gold jewellery worth Rs1.35 lakh from a 60-year-old hardware shop owner at Sudumbare village in Maval Taluka on Tuesday around 2.30pm.
The incident took place when the victim was returning to his shop on a scooter.
An officer from the Talegaon MIDC police said two men stopped the victim when he reached the Sudumabre village. "They told him they were police and a checking was underway. They told him to remove his gold chain and ring as their seniors may get angry," said the officer.
The duo requested the victim to put the jewellery in a handkerchief. "They then pretended to have covered the ornaments with a handkerchief and fled," said the officer.
