Mumbai: Jumbo centres to be closed as COVID-19 cases dip
Jumbo Covid Centers or field hospitals in Mumbai will be closed in phases as the number of coronavirus infections has decreased, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Wednesday.
After the first phase of the pandemic, three jumbo care centres had been closed while the rest continued to function. The Somaiya jumbo centre in Sion area will be kept ready in case there is fresh necessity, the BMC said in a release. Covid-19 patients will be treated at the four main civic-run hospitals and 16 suburban hospitals besides the Kasturba hospital in Chinchpokli.

The Delhi visit of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who was supposed to fly to the national capital on Wednesday night, has been cancelled, an official said.The official in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) didn't attribute any reason for the sudden cancellation of Shinde's visit.

Mumbai on Wednesday logged 283 fresh Covid-19 cases and two fatalities, taking the tally to 11,23,634 and the toll to 19,646, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) said. Notably, the doubling rate of cases in Mumbai has crossed the 3,000 mark from 2,975 days of Tuesday. Of the 283 cases, only 20 were symptomatic while the rest 263 are asymptomatic, as per the BMC bulletin.Mumbai has been reporting less than 300 daily infections since July 16. A day before, the city had logged 263 cases and a single death due to Covid-19.
