NEW DELHI: To mark 75 years of Independence, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to put up the Tiranga on streetlight poles at selected locations such as Connaught Place, Shanti Path, Khan Market, Sardar Patel Marg, Safdarjung flyover, and Ranjit Singh flyover from August 13-15.
As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, the civic body has decided to display short clips/videos on the national flag provided by the tourism ministry on the LED screens installed at prominent places, organise events with residents welfare and market associations, and hold patriotic programmes at Central Park, including a musical evening programme of songs on August 12.
“While some of the activities have already started at schools and residential areas, a detailed proposal will be presented in the council meeting on Wednesday,” said NDMC member Kuljeet Khatri.
“The flag will also be displayed at all NDMC buildings and roundabouts between August 13 and 15, and are already on all NDMC websites/social media pages from July 21,” said Chahal. Various activities like quiz, debates, painting competitions will be organised at schools to share interesting facts about the flag. An awareness programme will also be held on August 6 and 7 at Central Park.
“Organising such events will be the best way to reach out to more and more people and make them part of Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav,” said Chahal.
On Tuesday, a lecture was organised at NDMC Convention Centre where Major General Ashim Kohli (retd), head of Flag Foundation of India, spoke about important aspects of the flag code, its history and the procedure to be followed while unfurling and handling the national flag. A similar programme will be held for NDMC officials on Wednesday.
