NEW DELHI: Continuing his crackdown against government officials for alleged corrupt practices and dereliction of duty, lieutenant governor VK Saxena has suspended six officers of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for alleged gross negligence, abusing official position and receiving illegal gratification.
The LG has also given sanction to CBI for prosecuting a sub-registrar of the Delhi government's revenue department for "illegally regularising" at least 50 unauthorised constructions in Karol Bagh Zone. The MCD officers who face the action include two engineers who allegedly failed to prevent unauthorised construction in Narela. Sources said the complaints against officials of Delhi government, DDA and MCD are being decided singularly on merit.
Suspensions by LG: Official says action without bias
The crackdown against corrupt public servants and those involved in repeated dereliction of duties was in line with the LG's resolve of zero tolerance to corruption and probity in administration, said sources. "The suspension of MCD officers has once again exhibited a judicious approach of the LG in dealing with cases objectively and without any bias against any government department or officials," an official said.
"He has also rejected some of the complaints on finding no substantial ground for prosecution in the cases," said a source.
"Assistant engineer Sriniwas and junior engineer Sankhya Mishra of Narela were suspended for their failure to prevent unauthorised construction that recently led to the collapse of an under-construction warehouse in Bakauli village of Alipur that led to 5 deaths and left several others injured," the Raj Niwas sources said. "Other MCD officers who have been suspended include superintending engineer AS Yadav for financial irregularities in Bhalaswa's landfill site, administrative officer Manish Kumar and zonal inspector Vijay Kumar for delaying the processing of papers for mutation of properties in South Zone, and deputy controller of accounts Anju Bhutani for not following up with banks the matters related to clearance of pension cases."
Sources said LG V K Saxena had given a go-ahead to CBI to prosecute Raj Pal, a sub-registrar in Karol Bagh zone. "He is accused of registering unauthorised properties without putting the requisite stamp of unauthorised construction on sale deeds." He had registered 50 such properties from 21.07.2015 to 26.09.2018," said an official.
