HYDERABAD: The samples of a Kamareddy resident sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, has been found to be negative for monkeypox.
The patient had returned from Kuwait on July 6 and had symptoms similar to monkeypox, resulting in his samples being sent to NIV. He is currently in isolation in Fever hospital in the city and is now suspected to be having chickenpox, health director Dr G Srinivasa Rao said on Tuesday.
So far four monkeypox cases have been reported in India - three in Kerala and one from Delhi. State health officials stated that monkeypox monitoring and testing will follow a pattern similar to initial days of Covid-19.
While Fever Hospital is the nodal centre for treatment, testing will be available in Gandhi hospital from Wednesday. State government has also made arrangements to purchase the test kits. The suspected samples will be sent to NIV as well as tested at Gandhi hospital.
