(Express Photo: Partha Paul)The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, on Monday said that West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested in connection with the school teachers’ recruitment scam case, did not require hospitalisation as he did not have any serious illness and will be discharged later in the day.
The hospital authorities said they had sent Chatterjee’s medical reports to the Calcutta HC which on Sunday had ordered to shift the minister to the central tertiary healthcare centre in Odisha after the ED objected to the TMC leader being admitted to the West Bengal government-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
Dr Ashutosh Biswas, executive director of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, said, “Chatterjee has some chronic problems but he does not have any serious illness to be admitted to hospital. We have examined him. He will be discharged today as he doesn’t require hospitalisation at this time.”
Chatterjee was flown from Kolkata to Bhubaneswar in an air ambulance on Monday morning. He was taken to the airport from the SSKM in 25 minutes after a green corridor was created.

The Calcutta HC had also instructed the AIIMS to send Partha’s report by 3pm on Monday. The AIIMS submitted the report within the specified time, it is learnt, Dr Ashutosh Biswas said.
“Partha Chatterjee has four-five types of ailments for which he has been taking medication for a long time,” Dr Biswas said. The medical board in the AIIMS report said, “After a detailed evaluation, the committee is of the opinion that Mr Partha Chaterjee has been suffering from multiple chronic illnesses for a long time. Whatever problems he is having currently are attributed to the chronic illnesses and no active medical intervention is required right now. However, he is advised to continue treatment for these ailments as well as periodic evaluation.”
According to the report, Chatterjee complained of mild breathlessness on exertion for many years for which he requires frequent oxygen support, nebulisation in night. Partha also has “on-and-off bilateral pedal oedema” for which he is taking intermittent diuretic and is having regular follow-ups with a nephrologist for renal dysfunction, the report says. He has been complaining of dizziness for the last few days which is not associated with headache, palpitation, gait disturbance and vomiting, the report read.
