Sources said that Chinese jets have flown close to the border on a few occasions even after the latest round of talks on July 17, when the issue was raised and discussed. It is learnt that the combat aircraft breached confidence building measures instituted on the LAC to not fly within 10 kilometres of the boundary.
The violations are being closely monitored by the Indian Air Force and appropriate measures are being taken, sources said. The Air Force has moved several of its advanced fighters to forward bases and has stepped up combat sorties around Ladakh since the violations started. This includes enhanced night patrols being conducted by frontline fighters, including the latest Rafale combat jets.
Speaking on the repeated air violations, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari had said last week that Chinese fighter activity is being closely watched and countered. "Chinese aircraft activity is closely monitored by us. Whenever we see Chinese aircraft or remotely piloted aircraft coming too close to the LAC, we take appropriate measures by scrambling or putting our aircraft on higher alert. This has deterred them quite a lot," he said.
The 16th round of discussions between the Corps Commanders was held after a gap of over four months with sources indicating some forward movement on reducing tensions at flashpoints that have seen troops deployed in close proximity since 2020.
