Shares of Balkrishna Industries(up 3.42 per cent) and MRF(up 1.81 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra(down 3.83 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 2.37 per cent), Eicher Motors(down 1.93 per cent), Bosch(down 1.9 per cent) and TVS Motor Company(down 1.67 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 1.67 per cent down at 12423.7.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 88.45 points at 16631.0, while the BSE Sensex stood down 306.01 points at 55766.22.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 20 ended in the green, while 30 closed in the red.
Shares of Zomato Ltd., , , and were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of , , eMudhra Ltd., and hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Zomato Ltd., , , Bombay Rayon and hit their fresh 52-week lows.
