CHENNAI: A 27-year-old HR executive, who went to a restobar in Thoraipakkam to celebrate her husband's promotion, suffered burns to her face when a bartender mishandled the flaming drink she had ordered. Her husband was beaten up by four other patrons when he remonstrated with the bartender.
The couple said the bartender insisted on pouring the drink into the woman’s mouth and ended up spilling the flaming mixture on her face. The man managed to put out the flames, but when he pulled up the bartender for his carelessness, four men drinking at another table began to blame the woman and rained blows on her husband. All this happened while the woman was crying for help and no one provided first aid.
After calling up the police control room for help, the man took his wife to a government hospital for first aid and decided to file a police complaint as there was no proper response from the restobar management.
Adding insult to injury, the policemen who arrived at the spot questioned him why he had brought his wife to a bar.
“The management is not even ready to bear the medical expenses of my wife. They seemed to have no knowledge of how to handle flame shots,” said the man.
The man filed a police complaint at Kannagi Nagar police station falling under the Tambaram Commissionerate on July 15. Ten days later, police are yet to register a FIR.
They handed over the Community Service Register (CSR) and made the couple run from pillar to post instead of initiating action against the restobar. And, instead of booking a case against the men who attacked the husband, they were asked to give a written apology.
Repeated calls to the restobar went unanswered.
