Nitish Kumar on Monday expressed grief over the death of eight persons hailing from the state in a road accident near Barabanki in neighbouring
Uttar Pradesh.
Nitish also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the CM relief fund to the next of kin of all 8 deceased persons who hailed from Sitamarhi, Madhubani and Samastipur districts of north Bihar.
Terming the incident “very saddening”, Nitish said he was deeply shocked after getting information about the death of 8 residents of Bihar in the road accident.
At least eight residents of Bihar were killed, and 18 others injured, 13 of them seriously, after a speeding double-decker bus rammed into a stationary double-decker bus on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki in the wee hours on Monday, a Bihar government official told TOI here on Monday quoting an official report from Barabanki district administration.
Both the ill-fated buses, which originated from Bihar’s Sitamarhi and Supaul (Darbhanga) towns, were on their way to the national capital. All eight deceased and 18 injured persons hail from Bihar.
Nitish further instructed the Bihar’s Resident Commissioner in New Delhi to get in touch with officials concerned in Barabanki and make arrangements for treatment of those who have sustained serious injuries and also make adequate arrangements for transportation of bodies of the deceased to their respective native villages in Bihar.
The CM further extended condolences to the families of all 8 deceased saying the almighty may provide enough strength to the deceased’s families to bear the irreparable losses.
All 13 seriously injured passengers (of Bihar) were admitted at the trauma centre at the King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow; while five other normally injured persons were discharged after being treated at the community health centre, Haidergarh in Barabanki district, a Bihar Sadan official who is coordinating with Barabanki administration, told TOI over phone.
Four of the deceased persons were native of Madhubani district, while three were from Sitamarhi and one from Samastipur district.
Among the eight deceased, the 35-year old Sapna Das (wife of Shyam Das) and 12-year old Aditya, belong to one family. Sapna and Aditya were residents of Janakpur Road, Sitamarhi district.
Other six deceased persons have been identified as Shivdhari (42), Om Prakash (33), Sidhnarayan (25), Kamlesh Kumar (23), Samsuddin (17) and Subodh (24).
