Ghat areas of Kolhapur, Satara get heavy rain

KOLHAPUR: The ghat sections of Kolhapur and Satara districts received heavy rain on Sunday and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heavy rain in the last week of July.
Patharpunj in Satara district received maximum (78 mm) rainfall between 8am and 7pm on Sunday followed by Navaja (52 mm). However, the famous hill station of Mahabaleshwar received only 37 mm rainfall.
Meanwhile, the discharge from Koyna dam in Satara and Radhanagari dam in Kolhapur continued. As a result, the levels of the Krishna and Panchaganga rivers have receded by 8 feet and 16 feet, respectively.
Koyna has a current stock of 62 TMC while water is being discharged at 2,100 cusec. The discharge from Radhanagari dam, which is 74% full, is taking place at 1,500 cusec. Warna dam, which is 77% full, is currently witnessing a discharge at 1,800 cusec.
Also, four barrages on the Panchaganga river are still submerged.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert (moderate rain) for Sunday for Kolhapur and Satara. Also, a forecast of heavy rainfall has been issued for Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur districts from July 28 onwards for a period of 48 hours.
