Chennai Corporation taking census of street vendors

CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has begun taking census of street vendors in the city to implement its vending and non-vending zones project.
In a statement, the civic body has asked the vendors to register digitally through the field staff of the e-governance department coming under the ministry of electronics and information technology.
Vendors who have registered will get an ID card from the corporation and will also get a cash assistance.
The city approximately has around 23,000 registered vendors and the drive is aimed at adding more vendors to the ambit.
