Goa’s cumulative Covid-19 fatality count rose to 3,949 on Monday, with the health services adding a 100 more deaths that occurred between July 2020 and 2022, but were reported late.
The late reporting of deaths was more evident after the state government declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the immediate family of those who died after contracting the disease.
A health official said while during the first phase some private hospitals reported covid deaths late, later it was due to people who had not got certificates showing that their family member had died due to Covid-19. They only approached the authorities after they learnt that they could avail of the compensation.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Goa reported 80 cases and 73 recoveries, taking the active case count to 669. The recovery rate was at 98.16%. One patient was hospitalised. TNN
