Delhi News Live Updates (July 26): Delhi Tuesday is expected to receive light rainfall with minimum and maximum temperature likely to settle at 26 degrees and 36 degrees Celsius respectively. Light to moderate rainfall is on the weather forecast for the city for the entire week, the IMD said.

After installing around 1.33 lakh CCTVs across streets and colonies in the city under Phase 1, the Delhi government is going to install 35,000 more cameras every 100 metres on busy roads to increase safety of pedestrians and commuters. As part of Phase 2, the cameras will be installed on stretches, measuring 1,400 km, under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD).

With minimal political pressure till the civic body polls are conducted, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is using it as a window to increase taxes and improve its finances. The latest is an increase in trade and storage licence fee by 15% — applicable for general trading, warehouses, showrooms, godowns, and cold storage, among others — every three years, which was announced two weeks ago.

Priyanka Gandhi slams Delhi govt over termination of Anganwadi workers

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday termed as "unjust" the Delhi government's move to terminate over 800 Anganwadi workers for staging a strike seeking a raise in honorarium, and demanded that they should be immediately reinstated.

The lives of 884 Anganwadi workers in Delhi turned upside down after they were abruptly terminated for staging over a month-long strike demanding a raise in honorarium and respectable working hours.

These workers comprising several single mothers were issued termination notice on March 14 against their 39-day demonstration.

Attacking the AAP-led Delhi government, Gandhi said it had increased the honorarium of the MLAs a few days ago.

"But, taking an unjust step, the government sacked more than 800 Anganwadi workers demanding a respectable honorarium. Asking for a good honorarium for hard work is not a crime," the Congress general secretary said in a tweet.

These Anganwadi workers should be immediately reinstated, Gandhi demanded. (PTI)

Fake appointment letters for jobs in courts: Union law ministry asks Delhi Police to take action

The Union Ministry of Law and Justice has written to Delhi Police to take action against unknown people for allegedly issuing fake appointment letters for jobs in Delhi district courts. The police said the appointment letters were issued in the name of the law ministry and several such letters were found being issued in the Delhi-NCR region.

A case was registered by the New Delhi district in the matter and a first information report (FIR) was lodged last week by an additional secretary-level officer at the Tilak Marg police station.

In the FIR, the complainant alleged that the department received fake appointment orders for “lower-level posts in the district and subordinate courts in Delhi”. The same orders were circulating on social media and the accused forged orders in the name of the department of justice at the law ministry. Officials said that the matter was raised earlier too and they contacted Delhi Police in 2020 to help with the fake appointment orders. Read more
